Del-Nat donated $1 toward the purchase of tires for each tire collected in neighbor- hoods, business and industrial areas in South Memphis. Del-Nat President Jim Mayfield called the "Tires for Trees" initiative "a perfect way for Del-Nat to contribute and help beautify our community. You could say we're complet- ing the cycle, from delivering new tires to properly disposing the used ones," he said. The donated trees will be planted during the fall in areas selected by Memphis City Beautiful. The collected tires were recycled by Pitts- burgh-based Liberty Tire Recycling, accord- ing to Del-Nat. u Del-Nat Tire volunteers help beautify city Pathway Polymers Offers Industry Report Pathway Polymers Inc. recently published a white paper on "sustainability in the tire industry," dealing in part with improperly disposed scrap tires. The report--" Sustainability in the Tire In- dustry: Sustainable Development Through Tire Flatproofing Technology "-- covers the problem of improper scrap tire disposal, its effects, and the solution offered by Pathway Polymers through its patented AutoFil Recycler System, according to the Chat- tanooga, TN-based company. Pathway Polymers described the white paper, which includes research, statistics and analysis, as a potential sales tool "because tire manufac- turers, distributors and retailers are always looking to increase their sustainable devel- opment," the company added. Pathway Polymers claims that since 2005 its technology "has prevented approximately 80 million pounds, or the equivalent of 3.9 million tires, from being dumped into land- fills." u
